Two quotes for “a website” can differ tenfold. That isn't necessarily a rip-off: the two quotes often don't cover the same work. Here's what really drives the price.
Template or bespoke
A website built on an off-the-shelf theme costs less than a design created for you. The difference shows in how well the website reflects your business and nudges visitors to get in touch.
Content
This is the most underestimated item. Who writes the copy? Who supplies the photos? A low quote often assumes you'll provide everything – yet writing ten clear, well-optimised pages is real work.
Features
A simple form, appointment booking, online payment, a customer account area, several languages: every feature adds design and testing time.
SEO
Optimising every page for Google, setting up your Google Maps listing, fine-tuning speed: some agencies include it, some charge extra and some leave it out altogether.
Brand identity
If you don't have a logo, or yours is dated, creating it at the same time as the website costs less than redoing the website a year later.
What happens after launch
Hosting, updates, backups, changes: check what's included and, above all, who owns the website. A website you can't take with you is just a subscription in disguise.
How to compare two quotes
Put the quotes side by side and check, line by line:
- the number of pages and who writes the copy;
- photos and visuals;
- SEO and the Google Maps listing;
- the number of rounds of revisions;
- the timeline, aftercare and who owns the website.
With us, everything that's included is set out in black and white in the quote, and the price on the quote is the price you pay.
